Luke is a fascinating guy whose work stands out from the rest of the New Testament. His writings seems to reach out and answer so many of the questions we have about Jesus and the birth of the early church. And there are very good reasons for that!
You see, Luke is a Greek from Antioch (in modern day southern Turkey). He is the only writer in the Bible that is not a Jew. So, he writes about Jewish history from an outsiders perspective. But, even for an outsider, he has a remarkable understanding of the culture. No wonder, since he is also an Old Testament scholar! Since Luke is writing to the Greek audience, he is uniquely qualified to answer the questions us outsiders have as he tells the stories.
Luke is also physician by trade. Being a studied scientist, he also has a keen mind for detail and seems to himself be quite a septic. So, he takes the work other people have done to record a history of Jesus, but also does the research. He goes to Jerusalem and talks with eyewitnesses and gets the story straight.
Come join us as we learn about Jesus through the eyes of Luke the Physician!
