The Youth Mission Team is going to Mexico, starting Friday, June 13, 2008, to build a home for family in need. Up until this week, this family has been theoretical. Now, we know a little bit about them!
Meet the Garcia Lornejo family: Elipidia is a 36 year old single mother, raising two teenagers. She works in house maintenance and makes $40 a week. Her son, 16 year old Alvero, and her daughter, 15 year old, Lucia, both attend school in the afternoon. They live in a community called ‘Ampliacion Plan Libertador’, in Rosarito. The family used to live in Michoacan, but moved to Rosarito 9 years ago for a better life. Elipidia is still paying a mortgage for the land her current house sits on.
Elipida and her children believe in God, but say they are not very involved at church. When they go, they attend at the Catholic church.
The current house is a single room in bad condition. When it rains the roof leaks and Lucia tends to gets sick. The walls and floor are not in good condition either. The outhouse is less than perfect.
They do have electricity, drinkable water, access to propane, a stove, and a refrigerator. They do not have a telephone, or a car. A message from the family: “God Bless Amor ministries.”
Our youth will be building a two room, 11x22 foot house for the family to occupy. Really, it will not be much more than a shed when they leave, but the family will help finish the house the way they need it as they have the money.
We will try to post as often as we can!
